  • Enjoy world-class horse racing on Day 1 of Longines Irish Champion’s Weekend at Leopardstown Racecourse with five Group Races including the Irish Champion Stakes.

    Day 1 of Longines Irish Champions Weekend takes place on Saturday September 10th, 2022, at Leopardstown Racecourse, followed by Day 2 at The Curragh Racecourse on Sunday September 11th.

    Day 1 features an eight-race card made up of five Group Races and one Listed Race. The two Group One races on the card are the prestigious Irish Champion Stakes and the Coolmore America “Justify” Matron Stakes which are consistently among the leading races in the world.

    Located just six miles south of Dublin city centre and easily accessible from the N11 and M50 motorway, It is easily accessed by car, the Luas, or bus. Leopardstown all supply free shuttle buses from set Luas and DART train stations on all major racedays.


  • Irish Champion Stakes

    The Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes regularly ranks as one of best races in the world, with previous winners including multiple Group 1 winner Magical who has won this race for the last two years, Champion three-year-old colt and European horse of the year Roaring Lion, Horse of the Year and Champion 3yo Colt Sea the Stars and Cartier horse of the year Golden Horn. French Champion Jockey and multiple Group 1 winning Jockey Christophe Soumillon commented after victory aboard Almanzor in the 2016 renewal of the Irish Champions Stakes “Only champions can win a race like this".

    The Coolmore America Justify Matron Stakes has been voted the highest rated race for fillies and mares by the Longines World Thoroughbred Rankings on two occasions since it was upgraded to a Group 1 in 2004. Amongst the previous winners of this race are some of the most illustrious, elite mares to grace the turf during the twenty first century including multiple Group 1-winning superstars Attraction, Soviet Song and Red Evie, while Champers Elysees gave former Champion jockey Johnny Murtagh his first Group 1 winner in 2020. Justify, a son of Scat Daddy, is the only Triple Crown winner ever to retire to stud undefeated. He and American Pharoah are the only two winners of the Triple Crown in the past 40 years and stand alongside each other at Coolmore America. Coolmore Stud is widely acknowledged as the world’s biggest and best thoroughbred racehorse breeding operation, standing top sires in Ireland, America and Australia.
