Leopardstown Racecourse partners with ALONE this Christmas

"Christmas is a very important time for ALONE, we will deliver over 1,000 Christmas dinners on the 25th thanks to our dedicated volunteers and we will operate our National Support & Referral Line every day of the season.”
Leopardstown Racecourse will partner with ALONE, the national charity providing direct services to older people in need, at the upcoming four-day Christmas Festival which runs from December 26th to 29th. The Dublin racecourse aims to create valuable fundraising opportunities for the charity and offer ALONE service users an opportunity to come racing at the Foxrock venue over the festive season.

Former racing pundit and trainer Ted Walsh along with his daughter, former jockey Katie were joined by ALONE service user Mary Murphy, as they shared a heartwarming moment with retired racehorse Thousand Stars to announce the partnership at their yard at Kill, Co Kildare.

One of Dublin’s great sporting and social traditions over the festive period, the Leopardstown Christmas Festival runs from 26th – 29th December, offering four days of top-class National Hunt racing and features 7 Grade 1 races among the festival race programme along with a host of live music and entertainment.

To raise important funds for ALONE Leopardstown will have a number of ‘tap to donate’ locations throughout the enclosure, QR codes in the race cards and on the racecourse CCTV network.

Commenting on the partnership, Leopardstown Racecourse Chief Executive Tim Husbands, said: “We are delighted to partner with ALONE for our Christmas Festival this year and support the invaluable work they do in communities all around Ireland to ensure older people can remain in their own homes, feeling connected and safe. We look forward to welcoming many ALONE service users to come racing over the four days of the Christmas Festival. Everyone is guaranteed some fantastic racing, a great day out and an opportunity to get up close and personal to our equine stars. We have a number of fundraising initiatives planned over the four days to support the wonderful work of ALONE.”

Frank Dillon, Head of Communications and Fundraising at ALONE: “The partnership with Leopardstown is a big support for the work we do, which is increasing every year due to higher demands, and we are very grateful to the all the team in Leopardstown and the horse racing community for their support. Christmas is a very important time for ALONE, we will deliver over 1,000 Christmas dinners on the 25th thanks to our dedicated volunteers and we will operate our National Support & Referral Line every day of the season.”
