Mullins thrilled with Quevega workout

WILLIE MULLINS, top trainer at the Cheltenham Festival in 2011, put star mare Quevega through her paces in an after-racing gallop at Leopardstown on Sunday and was thrilled with the way she geared up for a potential fifth victory at jump racing's showpiece meeting.

The nine-year-old, who has not run since winning at Punchestown in April, was joined by three stablemates to prepare for another crack at the OLBG Mares' Hurdle, which she is red-hot favourite for.

Ridden by Katie Walsh, Quevega was settled behind Boxer Georg, Fiveforthree and another Mullins representative.

She came clear of them in an easy canter and Mullins said: "She took a nice bit out of Katie and as long as she comes out of that well - which I expect her to - a few bits of work next week will see her right."

Fiveforthree, the winner of what is now the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle in 2008, has entries in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and Coral Cup.

He is 33-1 for the World Hurdle, which he was eighth in on his last appearance in 2011, and 25-1 with the sponsor for the Coral Cup.

"He badly needed a day like that," added Mullins, speaking to At The Races.

"He'll get another hard day's work in the week. He's in the World Hurdle and Coral Cup and has a nice weight in the Coral Cup so we'll certainly look at that."

Mullins also has a leading chance of adding to his 24 festival winners with Stan James Champion Hurdle favourite Hurricane Fly, the subject of an enhanced price offer from William Hill.

They will go 3-1 across all their platforms from 9am on Monday and Mullins said: "He did a nice piece of work yesterday. Paul Townend, who rides him in all his work, was very pleased with him."

Townend and Ruby Walsh will ride the majority of Mullins' horses at Cheltenham and both had falls at Leopardstown on Sunday but no serious injuries were suffered.
