Lovers of Fashion and Horse Racing were out in force on Wednesday night (20th August) in the VIP room at Krystle Night Club in Dublin to launch the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes. The race, to be run at Leopardstown on Saturday 6th September is being widely heralded as ‘the greatest race in Europe this year’. HRI’S Fashion Ambassador Karen Koster stole the show as Leopardstown’s guest of honour and MC for the glamour evening event.

Michael O’Rourke, Leopardstown’s Chief Executive said: “The Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes is a world -class sporting event attracting some of the biggest crowds of the season. With Irish Racing experiencing unprecedented success at home and abroad the Champion Stakes is a great opportunity to see some of the world’s greatest horses and jockeys go head to head at home in Dublin.  Famous names such as Champion Flat Trainer Aidan O’Brien, and Jockeys Johnny Murtagh, Michael Kinane and Pat Smullen will be among those lining up to take on the world’s best.”

There is also an afternoon of high fashion in store as the most stylish lady on the day will take home a €5,000 voucher for House of Fraser, Dundrum Town Centre and a Linea outfit. The first of eight races will get underway at 1.40pm.

Also announced at the launch were the new Krystle Champagne Marquee beside the parade ring and a Lancôme beauty bar.  The Champion Stakes Raceday’s reputation as the high point of the Summer social racing season was evident in the launch guest list, with actresses Leigh Arnold, Rachel Kavanagh and Izabela Chudzicka, writer Marisa Mackle, Tres Abbot from Ballydoyle stables, Liam Durkin from Durkin Homes, Ed Haughey flew in for it from London. Some of the glamorous ladies included Victoria Fateaux Ryan, Rachel Wyse, Louise Cox, Lucy Noble, Vivienne Bushell, Valerie Roe, Lisa Fitzpatrick House of Frasers Lisa Moran and Jean Ann Taylor. Curragh Racehourse Trainer David Myerscough and his fiancé Stephanie Forde also enjoyed the celebrations.

Karen Koster, HRI Fashion Ambassador said “I’m really looking forward to the Tattersalls Million Champion Stakes day.  I went last year as a racegoer so it’s exciting to go this year as the HRI Fashion Ambassador and to judge the actual ladies day. If last year is anything to go by there’ll be plenty of style and fun on the day”.

A fashion show presented by House of Fraser, Dundrum Town Centre was a huge hit with the crowd with stunning new looks form their new autumn/ winter 2008 collections. The collection was dedicated to those with true fashion credentials and offers optimum style opportunities for the winter racing season. Tweed suits with masses of pearls epitomise Parisian left bank style while frills and ruffles add a feminine edge that works from day into evening. Key colours included richer jewel tones, garnet and ruby which look gorgeous on the paler Irish skin tones. While vivid fuchsia, deep purple and peacock blues are key brights for the season ahead and transform headpieces and hats, while highlighting a classic winter wardrobe.
