HENNESSY COGNAC GOLD CUP 2007
Beef Or Salmon Leaves It Late At Leopardstown
The hugely popular chaser, Beef Or Salmon, gained his tenth Grade 1 win in dramatic fashion in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown on Saturday. Andrew McNamara’s mount looked a forlorn hope when jumping the penultimate fence 15 lengths behind The Listener, but when that rival began to falter on the run-in, Beef Or Salmon gamely stayed on to snatch the verdict in the final 50 yards. The eleven-year-old received a rapturous reception in the winner’s enclosure and will now head for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Earlier in the day, the highly rated Aran Concerto made short work of his rivals in the Grade 1 Deloitte Novice Hurdle. He will now run in one of the novice hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival and he is sure to be a leading fancy. Elsewhere on the card, Mister Top Notch prevailed in an incident packed renewal of the Grade 1 Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase for Davy Fitzgerald and Conor O’Dwyer.
